How much do you know about the roasting and brewing techniques of coffee beans?

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world, and roasting and brewing techniques are key to making delicious coffee. In this article, we will explore the roasting and brewing techniques of coffee beans.

First, let's take a look at the roasting process of coffee beans. Roasting is the process of heating raw coffee beans to a specific temperature to change their chemical composition and flavor characteristics. Different degrees of roasting will produce coffee with different tastes and flavors.

Light roasting is usually carried out between 175°C and 205°C. This method retains most of the acidity in the original coffee beans and has bright, refreshing, fruity characteristics. Items suitable for light roasting include Persibia, Yirgacheffe, etc.

Medium (or city) roasting is usually carried out between 205°C and 220°C, which can reduce the acidity and increase the sweetness and bitterness, and form a spicy and rich or nutty taste. Products suitable for medium (or city) roasting include Colombia, Brazil, etc.

Deep (or French) roasting is usually carried out between 220°C and 240°C, at which time the coffee beans appear dark with a distinct bitter and caramel flavor. Single products suitable for deep (or French) roasting include mocha, Italian espresso, etc.

Next is brewing technique. There are many ways to brew coffee, and each method will affect the taste and flavor of the coffee. Here are a few common brewing methods:

Drip: This is one of the most common and simplest brewing methods. Put moderately coarse ground coffee into filter paper and slowly pour boiling water over it with the help of a dripper. The coffee produced in this way is refreshing and easy to control the concentration.

Pressure extraction: This is a method of extracting aroma and oils by forcing water through coffee powder at high pressure. The most famous and popular method is espresso. This method produces a rich and full-bodied coffee.

Cold brew: This is a method of mixing coffee powder with cold water and letting it sit for hours to days. The long soaking allows the flavors in the coffee beans to be fully released, and the resulting coffee has a soft, mellow taste.

In summary, roasting and brewing techniques are essential to making delicious coffee. Choose a roasting degree that suits your taste preferences and try different brewing methods. You will find that each cup can bring you different surprises.
