How difficult is it to make coffee?

Brewing a perfect cup of coffee is an art that requires skill and experience. For beginners, brewing coffee may seem very difficult. However, through learning and practice, we can gradually master this skill.

Choosing the right coffee beans

The first step is to choose the right coffee beans. Coffee beans from different regions have unique flavor characteristics. For beginners, it is recommended to choose medium-roasted or dark-roasted single-origin coffee beans. These beans usually have a richer and fuller taste.

Crushing and brewing

Grinding the selected coffee beans into the right particle size is also one of the keys. Different brewing methods require different particle sizes, such as drip, French press, espresso, etc.

* Drip filter: For brewing with filter paper (such as V60), the coffee beans need to be crushed into particles the size of medium-fine sugar.

* French Press: A French press (like the Aeropress) requires medium-fine ground coffee, similar to fine sand.

* Espresso: Espresso machines require very fine ground coffee, similar to flour.

Control water temperature and brewing time

Adjusting the water temperature and brewing time is also the key to brewing perfect coffee. Generally speaking, brewing with water temperature around 90-96°C can extract the best taste. Different brewing methods also require different times.

Taste and adjust

After brewing, taste the coffee you brewed and make minor adjustments based on your personal taste. If you feel the acidity is too high or too low, you can increase or decrease the amount; if you feel the bitterness is too strong or insufficient, you can extend or shorten the extraction time appropriately.

Summarize

Although beginners may find it difficult to brew a perfect cup of coffee, as long as you master the basic skills and experience, you will be able to brew a satisfying cup of coffee. Choosing the right coffee beans, grinding and brewing techniques, controlling water temperature and brewing time, and tasting and adjusting are all key steps. Through continuous learning and practice, we can become an excellent barista.
