Coffee bean growing and production: the whole process revealed

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world, and coffee beans are the key ingredient in making coffee. In this article, we will reveal the entire process of coffee beans, from growing to making.

1. Growth of coffee plants

Coffee plants usually grow in tropical and subtropical regions, and they require suitable climate and soil conditions. First, the seeds are sown in fertile soil and kept moist. When the temperature reaches the suitable range, the seeds begin to germinate.

After germination, the seedling will gradually grow into a plant with stems, leaves and roots. This process takes about three years to form a mature and stable plant.

2. Formation of coffee cherries

When coffee plants reach a certain size, they begin to flower and produce fruit, called coffee berries, which look like small red or purple cherries.

There are two coffee beans inside the coffee berry, which are wrapped in pulp and skin. These beans are green and need to go through a period of fermentation and drying before they can become the coffee beans we know.

3. Harvesting and processing of coffee beans

When the coffee berries are ripe, farmers pick them by hand or mechanically. This process requires patience and skill to ensure that only fully ripe berries are collected.

Once the berries are picked, farmers process them. First, they remove the outer skin to expose the pulp and beans inside. Then, they ferment them in a special machine. This process helps remove excess mucilage and improves the taste.

Next comes the drying phase, which is done in the sun or by mechanical equipment. This process requires controlling humidity and temperature to avoid mold growth and maintain optimal quality.

4. Roasting of coffee beans

Once the coffee beans are completely dry, they are ready for roasting. Roasting is a critical step that can affect the flavor and aroma of the coffee beans.

During the roasting process, coffee beans undergo chemical reactions that evaporate their internal water content and produce specific compounds that give coffee its different flavor characteristics, from richness to acidity.

5. Storage and grinding of coffee beans

Once roasted, coffee beans need to be properly stored to maintain their freshness and quality. It is best to store them in airtight containers and avoid exposure to sunlight, moisture, or high temperatures.

When we want to make a delicious cup of coffee, we need to crush the stored coffee beans. This process is called "grinding", and you can choose different coarseness and fineness according to your personal taste to brew the ideal taste and concentration.

6. Serving a perfect cup of coffee

Finally, we put the ground coffee beans into the coffee machine or hand-pour equipment, inject the right amount of hot water, and wait for a while. As the water comes into contact with the coffee beans, a chemical reaction occurs between them, releasing the aroma and flavor.

When the time is up, we can pour out the rich and fragrant coffee in the drinking cup. Add milk, sugar or other seasonings to adjust the taste according to personal taste.

in conclusion

Through this article, we understand the whole process from the growth of coffee plants to making a perfect cup of coffee. Each step has an important impact on the final output, and we can appreciate the efforts of growers and producers behind the delicious drink.
