How to choose the right coffee beans?

The choice of coffee beans is crucial to a delicious cup of coffee. Different coffee bean origins, types, and roasting levels will affect the taste and flavor. There are several key factors to consider when choosing coffee beans that suit your taste.

First of all, it is very important to understand the characteristics of different origins. There are three main producing areas in the world: Latin America, Africa and Asia. Latin American producing areas (such as Brazil and Colombia) have the largest production and export volume, and their coffee beans usually have lower acidity and medium to high strong flavor; Africa (such as Ethiopia and Kenya) is famous for high acidity and floral and fruity aroma; while Asia (such as Indonesia and Vietnam) is characterized by low acidity and strong taste. Choose the origin that suits your taste preferences according to your own preferences.


Secondly, it is also important to understand the different types or varieties. Arabica and Robusta are the two most common and widely grown coffee varieties. Arabica beans usually have higher acidity and rich flavor with a soft taste, while Robusta beans have higher caffeine content, lower acidity and a stronger taste. Choose according to your sensitivity to coffee flavor and caffeine.


Finally, the degree of roasting is also an important factor to consider when buying coffee beans. The degree of roasting can be divided into three main categories: light roasting, medium roasting and dark roasting. Light roasting retains the characteristics of the original origin, with higher acidity but less obvious rich flavor; medium roasting makes the flavor more balanced and adds sweetness; while dark roasting brings a rich and bitter taste.
