How to choose coffee beans?

Selecting coffee beans is an important task that directly affects the quality and taste of the coffee we taste. Here are some common methods to help you choose the coffee beans that best suit your taste.

First, observe the appearance. Good coffee beans should be shiny and smooth, without obvious damage or cracks. Color is also an important indicator. Generally, lighter or medium-dark roasted beans are more popular because they retain more original flavor.

Next, smell the aroma. Open the bag and breathe in gently, paying attention to whether there is a strong and pleasant aroma. Good coffee beans usually have a specific aroma such as floral, fruity, chocolate or nutty.

Third, consider the origin and type when choosing. Coffees grown in different origins and types have different flavor characteristics. For example, the Colombian coffee region is famous for its soft and balanced coffee with citrus acidity, while the Ethiopian coffee region is known for its rich floral and fruity aroma and a fresh taste like tea.

In addition, it is also important to understand the degree of roasting. Different degrees of roasting will bring different flavor characteristics to coffee. Light roasting usually retains more original flavors, with acidity and light taste; medium-dark roasting is more balanced while retaining some sweetness and nutty aroma; dark roasting will bring rich bitterness and complex aromas such as cocoa and chocolate.

Finally, choose whole beans when purchasing and grind them yourself. Whole beans can keep the oil molecules inside the coffee beans intact and release more flavor substances when brewing. Using a fresh grinder on site to crush the coffee beans into the right particle size is also one of the key steps.

In summary, when choosing coffee beans, you need to pay attention to the appearance, aroma, origin and type, as well as the different degrees of roasting. Choosing coffee beans that suit your taste will bring you a cup of mellow and delicious coffee experience.
