How to prepare your own coffee beans: the easy and delicious coffee roasting method

Coffee roasting is the process of heating raw coffee beans to a specific temperature to evaporate the water inside and produce chemical changes, thus presenting the aroma and taste of coffee we are familiar with. Processing coffee beans in-house not only ensures freshness and quality, but also allows you to enjoy a simple and delicious cup of homemade coffee.

First of all, it is very important to choose good quality green coffee beans. You can choose to buy beans from different regions or different varieties to try to find the variety that best suits your taste. After purchasing, store the green beans in a dry, cool and well-sealed container.

Next is the roasting process. The simplest and most commonly used method is to use a pan for manual roasting. First, preheat the pan over medium-low heat and pour an appropriate amount of green beans into the pan (it is recommended to control about 100 grams each time). Then stir gently with a wooden spatula or stirring stick to prevent sticking and overheating.

When the heat starts, you will hear the first "pop" sound, which is the water inside the beans starting to evaporate. As time goes by, you will hear more "pops" and see the beans gradually change color. During the roasting process, you can control the roasting time and heat according to your favorite taste.

Generally speaking, light roasting produces a more acidic, lighter taste, medium roasting produces a balanced and slightly sweet coffee, and dark roasting produces a rich, bitter taste. When the beans reach the color and aroma you are satisfied with, immediately pour them into a cold pot or large bowl to cool.

Finally, don’t rush to use your coffee until it’s completely cooled. Store freshly roasted coffee beans in a clean, well-sealed place away from direct sunlight. To preserve the best flavor, enjoy them within two days to a week.

In summary, it is not difficult to process coffee beans at home and roast them simply and deliciously. Just choose high-quality raw beans, roast them manually in a pan, and control the roasting time and firepower according to your personal taste. Enjoying a cup of homemade coffee is also a way to appreciate coffee culture.
