The coffee bean production process can be divided into four main stages: picking, processing, roasting and grinding. The first is the picking stage. Coffee beans are usually picked when they are at their best maturity. This process requires manual work because coffee trees in different regions mature at different rates. Farmers will manually select the right coffee cherries and peel them off the trees. Next comes the processing stage. This stage aims to remove the pulp and mucilage in order to obtain clean coffee beans. There are two main methods used for processing: dry and wet. Dry processing involves drying the whole coffee cherry in the sun until the pulp is dry and easy to peel. The outer skin and inner mucilage are then removed by machine or by hand, exposing the coffee bean inside. The wet process involves soaking freshly harvested coffee in water, then mechanically removing the outer skin and mucilage. The resulting finest beans are then fermented, washed and dried. After processing, the coffee beans need to be roasted. This process involves exposing the beans to high temperatures to change their color, taste, and aroma. The time and temperature of roasting will be adjusted according to different taste requirements. Finally, the grinding stage. Once the coffee beans are roasted, they can be sent to specialized equipment for crushing. Different types of coffee require different degrees of fineness to brew the best taste. In summary, from picking to processing to finished product, coffee beans go through multiple stages before they become the delicious drink we drink. Each link has an important impact on the final product. |
