Coffee utensils | Detailed instructions on how to use a moka pot

It was invented by Italian Alfanso Bialetti in 1933. It uses the heating method of the base to brew coffee. It is a type of distillation coffee machine. It is the most popular type of Italian coffee machine and is widely used in Italian families.

Alfonso Bialetti was an inventor and designer. After returning from studying in France, Alfonso went to work in the aluminum metal industry, which was quite prosperous in Italy at that time.

In 1918, Alfonso founded his own factory and opened Bialetti Company, starting to sell aluminum-related metal products, including household cleaning utensils and other tools.

What utensils do you need to make a cup of Italian coffee with a moka pot:

1. Moka pot,

2. Gas stove and stove rack or "induction cooker"

3. Coffee beans

4. Bean grinder

Brewing process:

①. Disassemble the Moka pot, because the Moka pot consists of an upper pot, a middle coffee powder slot, and a lower pot.

②Pour water into the pot

③. Water shall flood below the pressure relief valve

④. Pour coffee powder into the coffee powder trough and smooth the surface without pressing the powder.

⑤. Install the coffee powder tank on the lower pot

⑥. Install the pot and tighten it completely.

⑦. Heat the Moka pot over low heat. You can place it directly on the gas stove for heating. In order to ensure more stable heating during the process, you can place a layer of wire mesh above the gas stove.

⑧. After the water is heated, the kettle will make a buzzing sound due to the steam, and you can turn off the fire.

⑨. After the coffee flows into the upper pot, you can pour it into other containers.

Notes on brewing a Moka pot:

  • When filling the lower pot of the Moka pot with water, special attention must be paid to the water level not exceeding the position of the pressure relief valve.

  • Do not touch the moka pot directly after it is heated to avoid burns.

  • If the coffee liquid spurts out explosively, it means the water temperature is too high. On the contrary, if it flows out too slowly, it means the water temperature is too low and you need to increase the heat.

  • Safety: Because of the pressure, pay attention to the control of the heat when brewing.

In fact, the principle of extracting coffee with a moka pot is very simple. It uses the steam pressure generated in the lower pot. When the steam pressure is high enough to penetrate the coffee powder, it will push the hot water to the upper pot.

The coffee extracted by the Moka pot has a strong taste, sour and bitter, and has a fat layer. It is the coffee maker that is closest to Italian espresso. It is easy to use and has become a symbol of home-made espresso. If you have a milk frother at home, you may even be able to make latte art.

What to do when you are at home and you are craving for coffee? Use a moka pot and you can also make some coffee~
