Coffee making process: from bean to aroma

Coffee is a popular drink with a unique aroma and taste. However, making a cup of aromatic coffee is not an easy task. Here is an introduction to the process from beans to aroma.

1. Coffee bean picking and processing

First, we need to select high-quality coffee beans. High-quality coffee beans are usually grown in high altitude areas because there are more suitable conditions for growing coffee trees. When the coffee cherries are ripe, farmers will pick them by hand.

Next, the picked coffee cherries are processed. First, the skin is removed to expose the inner part called "essence". Then, in the steps of washing and fermentation, the residual substances are removed and the essence is dried.

2. Coffee Bean Roasting

The clean, dry and well-preserved essence after processing is called coffee beans. The next step is roasting.

During the roasting process, coffee beans are subjected to high temperatures and time. Different roasting degrees produce different flavors and aromas. Generally speaking, light roasting retains more of the original flavor, while dark roasting brings out a stronger bitter taste.

3. Cooling and storage of coffee beans

After roasting, the coffee beans need to be cooled. This process is important because it allows the coffee beans to reach their optimal taste and avoids over-extraction due to continued heating.

After that, we need to store the coffee beans in proper containers and make sure they are away from harmful elements like sunlight, moisture, and oxygen. This will extend their shelf life and preserve their freshness.

4. Grinding of coffee beans

When we are ready to make a cup of delicious coffee, we need to grind the well-processed and well-preserved coffee beans into powder.

The grind level of the coffee beans affects the flavor and extraction of the coffee. Finer grinds allow for better contact between the water and the coffee, resulting in a richer flavor. Coarser grinds are better for brewing filtered coffee.

5. Coffee Brewing

The last step is to add the ground coffee to the brewing device and add the appropriate amount of water for brewing.

Different types and methods of brewing produce different tastes and flavors. For example, espresso uses high-pressure steam to compress and extract a rich, creamy taste with rich aroma; French press uses gravity filtration to retain most of the oils and their flavors; hand brewing is characterized by simplicity and purity, etc.

Summarize

There are many steps involved in making a cup of delicious coffee: from selecting high-quality coffee beans to roasting, cooling, grinding and brewing. Each step has an important impact on the final taste and flavor.

Therefore, if you want a cup of really delicious coffee, you not only need to choose good coffee beans, but also need to master the skills and details in the production process. Only in this way can you turn coffee from beans into mellow coffee.
