Introduction to coffee classification, taste characteristics and prices

Coffee classification

Coffee is a popular beverage that can be classified in many different ways. Depending on where the coffee beans are grown and how they are processed, coffee can be divided into two categories: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica beans are grown at high altitudes and have a more delicate flavor and higher acidity, while Robusta beans are grown at lower altitudes and have a stronger and more bitter taste.

In addition, according to the degree of roasting, coffee can be divided into three levels: light roasting, medium roasting and dark roasting. Light roasted coffee has a lighter color and a light taste; medium roasted coffee has a balanced sweet and sour taste; and dark roasted coffee has a darker color and a bitter flavor.


Taste characteristics

Each type of coffee has its own unique flavor profile. Arabica is loved for its smooth, floral and fruity aromas. It often has a bright, rich acidity with flavors like citrus, berries and chocolate. Robusta has a full-bodied, bitter flavor that makes it ideal for espresso.

In addition, coffee from different regions also has its own unique flavor characteristics. For example, coffee produced in Colombia usually has a balanced and mellow taste with chocolate and nutty aromas; coffee produced in Kenya is known for its bright and sour characteristics; coffee produced in Brazil has a rich and sweet taste.

Price Introduction

Because there are large differences between types and quality grades, coffee prices vary accordingly. Generally speaking, Arabica beans are more expensive than Robusta beans. Coffees that are high-quality, rare, or have undergone special processing (such as cold brew) usually sell for a higher price.

Another factor that affects the price is the origin. Some regions have difficult growing conditions or small-scale planting, and the supply on the market is small, so the price will be relatively high. For example, Kawai coffee from Hawaii is highly sought after for its rarity and special flavor.

In addition, the degree of roasting will also affect the price of coffee. Dark roasting usually requires a longer and higher temperature process, so it is more expensive. This roasting method can make the coffee beans have a strong flavor, but it will also cause some delicate aromas to be lost.

Overall, you can find a variety of coffee products in different price ranges on the market. Whether it is classic brands or special products launched by small boutiques, consumers can choose the coffee that suits them according to their budget and taste preferences.
