Coffee roasting apprenticeship: the journey from beginner to professional roaster

The passion of coffee roasting

As a coffee lover, my passion and curiosity for coffee drove me to embark on a journey of learning coffee roasting. At the beginning, I knew very little about the types of coffee beans, their origins, and the different roasting degrees. However, this did not stop my interest and desire to explore more about coffee roasting.

Taking the first step: apprenticeship

In order to learn and understand coffee roasting technology more deeply, I decided to become an apprentice and practice under the guidance of a professional roaster. At this stage, my task is to assist in preparing materials, cleaning equipment, and observing and recording the changes that occur in each step.

By observing professionals and participating in the process myself, I gradually mastered the basic operating skills. From measuring the exact proportions to adjusting the heat time, I made progress with each practice. Although sometimes I encountered failures or unsatisfactory results, these setbacks did not hold me back, but instead inspired me to work harder to learn and improve.

A Deeper Understanding of the Art of Coffee Roasting

As time went by, I began to understand the artistry of coffee roasting. Coffee beans from different origins and types have their own unique flavor characteristics, and different degrees of roasting can adjust the taste and aroma. Mastering these techniques requires careful observation of each step and patience to try and adjust.

During my apprenticeship, I also began to learn about coffee bean preservation, quality evaluation, and cupping. This knowledge provided me with an opportunity to gain a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the world of coffee, and helped me improve my ability to pursue perfect quality for every cup of specialty coffee.

From Apprentice to Professional: Continuous Learning and Growth

After a period of time as an apprentice, my skills have improved significantly. However, I know there is still a lot to learn and master before becoming a professional baker.

In order to further improve my skills, I began to participate in various coffee roasting training courses and competitions. These activities not only helped me communicate and learn from other industry experts, but also provided me with opportunities to showcase my skills. Through continuous learning, practice and reflection, my roasting skills gradually reached a professional level.

Becoming a qualified baker

Today, as a qualified coffee roaster, I deeply understand that this profession requires continuous learning and improvement. There are new challenges waiting for us to deal with every day, and new technologies and processes are constantly emerging in the industry.

However, in this ever-changing and competitive industry, the most important thing for a coffee lover is to keep his original intention and persist in the pursuit of excellence. Only through continuous efforts, practice and sharing experience with peers can we achieve greater success in the coffee industry.

Conclusion

The process from a coffee roasting apprentice to becoming a professional roaster is full of challenges and opportunities. Through continuous learning, practice and exploration, I gradually mastered the techniques and art of coffee roasting and continuously improved my abilities.

Whether it was the passion when I first entered the industry or the experience I gained as an apprentice, each stage had an important impact on my growth. Today, as a qualified roaster, I continue to pursue the perfection of coffee quality and am willing to share what I have learned with more people.
