How to test coffee strength?

How to test coffee strength?

A cup of coffee in the morning

A cup of coffee at noon

A cup of coffee in the evening

People always hope

The barista can present a perfect cup of coffee in front of them

How to create the perfect taste?

What matters is the flavor intensity and texture of the coffee

Coffee strength or weakness

You need a professional coffee refractometer to complete

Tips:

Coffee concentration: TDS -Total dissolved solids. Also known as the total amount of dissolved solids, the unit is milligrams per liter (mg/L). The higher the TDS value, the more dissolved solids are contained in the water.

ATAGO coffee concentration meters have different models. Not only can they test coffee TDS, but some models can also measure the sugar content (Brix) of drinks or juices.

Today, we will use the ATAGO 4533 model (which can measure Brix and TDS) to understand the measurement process of the coffee concentration meter.

“START” is the power on/off button. When “LLL” is displayed, it means that no sample can be detected at the refractive crystal.

Extract the coffee sample and stir it thoroughly.

Take out immediately to prevent moisture from evaporating

Only about 0.5g of coffee sample is needed, so the coffee will cool faster.

Pour the test sample onto the stainless steel wall next to the refractive crystal as much as possible to cool the test sample coffee through the stainless steel.

The first value that appears after the coffee sample is cooled to room temperature is the Brix.

Press and hold the "START" button for about 3 seconds, and the temperature will be displayed as "TDS", which means the value is: TDS.

If the TDS value is unstable, continue measuring until the value stabilizes. The temperature difference between the refractive crystal of the concentration meter and the coffee sample can cause the value to be unstable.

Precautions

Coffee samples need to be filtered when tested (when brewing without filter paper)

The coffee sample to be tested needs to be cooled to room temperature and water evaporation needs to be avoided

· Combined analysis of sensory analysis and TDS test results

If the measured value is surprising, you need to calibrate the ATAGO concentration meter with ultrapure water.

When the value measured with ultrapure water is not 0%, it is necessary to clean the refractometer measurement area or recalibrate.

Correction

Pure water calibration-Notes

1. Prepare ultrapure water

2. Use a paper towel to clean the refractive crystal test plate

3. Drop about 0.5g of water into the test plate

4. Press the "Zero" button and wait for 000 to appear on the display.

5. If other values appear, press the "Zero" key again

6. After successful calibration, wipe the water in the test plate with a paper towel and then test the coffee sample

A great coffee tool that is easy to use, super cost-effective, worth buying
