Because the last article mentioned the most perfect curve of roasted coffee, I know that many of you may not be professional roasters, so I will tell you something practical. I decided to recommend my latest attempt, which is to roast coffee in a home oven. Although the coffee produced may not be the best or the most delicious, it is quite interesting, and the most important thing is that you can roast it yourself.Supplies Needed —————— —————————— 1. Oven 2. A baking sheet, preferably one with small holes, such as those used for cooking pizza 3. Timer or stopwatch 4. Oven Mitts 5. Wooden shovel 6. Metal colander 7. Spray bottle 8. Green coffee beans A good oven can help you get better results when roasting coffee beans. The oven we choose should have a temperature of 240-250 degrees, and should have a window for easy observation and a light inside the oven, so that we can easily check and control the temperature at any time during the baking process. In addition, necessary ventilation holes are necessary, because there will be a certain amount of smoke during the baking process, and if it cannot be dissipated, it will affect the final quality. Let’s get started without further ado. When baking, start the oven first and set it to high temperature. As for the temperature, coffee friends can determine it according to the oven at home. Spread the coffee beans in an even layer on the tray without overlapping, then put the coffee tray into the oven and start roasting. During the roasting process, watch the color of the coffee change, waiting for it to change from green to yellow, and then from light brown to dark brown. It should be noted that because the temperature of each spot in each oven or baking tray is different, there may be uneven baking. If you find that the roasting is uneven, pull out the coffee in time, stir the coffee beans with a wooden spatula, and then quickly put the coffee beans back into the oven. However, try not to do this more than twice, because every time you open the oven door, the temperature will drop, which will affect the quality of the roasted coffee beans. In addition to carefully observing the color changes of the coffee beans, you should also listen carefully to the sound. After the first crack, if it is roasted long enough, a second crack will occur. At this time, you should determine the temperature according to your preference. If you like light roasting, you can do it at the first crack, and if you like dark roasting, just wait until the second crack. After stopping the roasting, put on gloves to take out the coffee beans, put them in a metal filter pot, and place them on the balcony or in a ventilated place. If conditions permit, it is best to place them outdoors in a place with good air circulation and no odor. Alternatively, you can simply use a spray bottle to lightly spray some water and pass it back and forth between two metal colanders to perform the cooling step. As shown below: This will also help to remove the husks from the coffee beans. If it’s not very specific, let me give you a little tip! Oven baking step by step 1. Preheat the oven to 240-250 degrees or according to your oven conditions. 2. Spread the beans on a baking sheet, making sure not to overlap. 3. Open windows and vents. 4. Find a suitable location to cool the coffee. 5. After preheating the pot, put the baking tray with coffee beans into the oven. 6. Carefully observe the color and evenness of the roasting. Listen carefully to the sound. It takes about 10-17 minutes to roast the beans. 7. If the coffee beans are not roasted evenly, remove from the oven, stir with a wooden spatula, and return to the oven quickly. 8. When done baking, turn off the oven, remove the pan, and transfer to a cooling table. 9. Place the beans in a metal colander and begin shaking (gently) to cool them and remove the hulls. I roasted coffee beans in an oven. Although I failed several times, I felt a great sense of accomplishment when I succeeded. The most important thing is that the taste is pretty good. You can try it!
