The three sins of instant coffee

Instant coffee is not only a synonym for convenience, but also increasingly popular. At the same time, there are more and more questions about the pros and cons of instant coffee, such as whether it is healthy or carcinogenic.

The biggest advantage of instant coffee is its convenience. You can just brew it with hot water when you want to drink it. In addition, instant coffee has a long shelf life and is relatively cheap. However, in recent years, doubts about "instant coffee" have been increasing. The common "three-in-one" instant coffee on the market contains high sugar and saturated fatty acids, and therefore may increase the risk of diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Some people even claim that drinking too much instant coffee can cause cancer?

Nestle is a leading brand in the instant coffee industry. Do you know how Nestle coffee is produced? The origin of Nestle coffee was originally to help solve the problem of excess coffee inventory, but now it has become one of the most popular drinks in the world because coffee is convenient, fast, and more durable.

For instant coffee, the production process also needs to go through pretreatment, roasting, grinding, extraction, concentration & drying.

There are only a few steps in the process, but it simplifies the previously complicated coffee brewing process, which can be described as simple and quick.

It is undeniable that the above production method also has many problems:

First: In order to reduce production costs, instant coffee uses inferior coffee beans and adds a lot of food additives to improve the taste during the production process, so there are a variety of delicious coffee flavors. In fact, these coffee flavors are poor. A lot of white sugar, glucose syrup, non-dairy creamer and hydrogenated vegetable oil are added to the coffee to cater to the different tastes and preferences of consumers around the world, but long-term drinking of this kind of coffee is not good for the body.

Second: because there is no need to consider the appearance of the raw materials, lower-grade raw coffee beans are generally used for roasting in bulk production. The roasting degree of instant coffee often remains at a relatively early stage, and the depth of roasting cannot fully reflect the aroma of the coffee beans.

Third: During the production process of instant coffee, ingredients that can increase low-density cholesterol levels are removed. In this respect, instant coffee is as healthy as coffee filtered by filter paper. However, the biggest concern about instant coffee is the acrylamide level. The acrylamide content in instant coffee is 2 to 3 times that of coffee beans. Acrylamide is considered a potential carcinogen.

Although instant coffee has brought great convenience to our lives, healthy instant coffee should not be coffee powder + white sugar (or sweetener) + non-dairy creamer + other food additives. You should not drink too much of such instant coffee. Healthy instant coffee needs to consider the raw material standards and whether there are additives in the production process.
