Coffee bean processing methods revealed: from picking to roasting, step by step to present the mellow taste

pick

The coffee bean processing begins with picking. In the coffee plantation, when the coffee berries on the trees are ripe, farmers begin to pick them. They carefully select the most mature berries to ensure the highest quality coffee beans.

Peeling and fermentation

Once picked, the coffee beans need to go through a process called peeling and fermentation. First, farmers place the berries in special equipment to peel them. This step can be done mechanically or by hand.

Next comes the fermentation stage, during which the peeled fruit is placed in specific conditions to ferment. This process helps to remove the pulp residue and provides a better taste and aroma for the subsequent steps.

washing

After fermentation, the coffee beans go through a washing process to remove any residue and purify them. This is usually done by soaking the beans in water and running water through them to clean them.

Dry

After washing, the coffee beans need to be dried. Farmers spread them out on a specific surface so that the sun and air can dry them thoroughly. This process can take several days until the beans are completely dry.

Screening and grading

Once the coffee beans are completely dried, they go through the steps of screening and grading. During this process, farmers sort the beans based on factors such as size, shape, and color.

Baking

After screening and grading, the coffee beans are ready for roasting. Different types of coffee usually require different degrees of roasting to bring out their unique flavor characteristics.

During the roasting process, the beans are exposed to high temperatures and are constantly stirred to ensure even heating. Over time, the beans gradually change color and release their aroma.

Cooling and packaging

After completing the last step - cooling and packaging, the coffee beans can be shipped out of the factory. The cooling process is to expose the roasted coffee beans to the natural environment to gradually reduce their temperature.

Finally, the coffee beans are packaged into different specifications and packaging forms for transportation and sale.

Conclusion

The process from picking to roasting is crucial to making a cup of fragrant and delicious coffee. Each step needs to be handled carefully, and each link has an impact on the quality of the final product. Only coffee beans that have been carefully processed can bring us deliciousness and enjoyment.
