Today, let’s learn about American coffee. How many ways are there to make American coffee?

Americano can be a general term for any black coffee. For example, coffee made with a French press or drip coffee can still be called Americano. In the Italian coffee recipe, the drink that adds hot water to espresso is called Americano.

From the name, we know that it is very popular in North America. And the reason why the definition of American coffee is so broad can be seen from two points.

1. Coffee drinking is very common in the United States. It is a readily available drink.

2. Black coffee is called "black coffee" no matter how it is made, so the simple preparation more or less reflects that this beverage is not so much for tasting as for drinking. In fact, this is true. If you go to North America, especially for breakfast, you can see many people on their way to work, holding a huge takeaway cup with about 300ml of black liquid in it. Of course, in China, American black coffee is not unfamiliar in China.

Americano, Long Black & Lungo

Here we can introduce its other two brothers, one is Long Black and the other is

The first is to add hot water to the espresso, while the Long Black is just the opposite, adding the espresso to the hot water. The different order will give you a slightly different taste. It is more famous in Australia and New Zealand, and is now becoming popular in London, England.

What about Lungo? It is quite special. It is obtained by changing the scale of the grinder to increase the flow rate of the original espresso extraction. In terms of capacity, Americano has a larger capacity than Long Black (250ml Vs 150) and Lungo has the smallest capacity, which is only about 60ml. Lungo is usually ground coarser to speed up the extraction and shorten the time. The coffee obtained from Lungo is the most oily among the three.

Ristretto is the opposite of lungo. It is made with half the normal coffee powder to water ratio, the only difference is the degree of grinding of the coffee powder.

Since coffee extraction starts strong and ends weak, the flavor of Ristretto is stronger than that of Espresso per unit time.
