How to make a delicious cup of hand-brewed coffee when staying at home?

During normal working hours, many people drink instant coffee.

This year is special, with the coronavirus pandemic, and we have more time to stay at home. So why not try the hand-brewed coffee that has been popular in recent years?

Hand-brewed coffee is hand-brewed coffee. This brewing method was first invented by Ms. Melita from Germany in the 20th century. When she was making coffee at home, she had an idea to use her son's blotting paper as filter paper, put coffee in the blotting paper, and pour hot water into the coffee powder, thus extracting a cup of coffee with an unusual taste.

Hand-poured coffee has been very popular among coffee lovers in recent years. Almost every coffee shop has hand-poured coffee equipment. As an amateur, I am also fascinated by this simple brewing method. First of all, hand-poured coffee gives people a sense of ritual; secondly, the complex flavor and smell of coffee bring a different experience every time it is brewed.

How can you make a cup of hand-brewed coffee at home? In my opinion, the conditions for a cup of delicious coffee should be "freshly roasted coffee beans", "freshly ground coffee powder", and "freshly brewed".

First of all, the coffee beans (powder) must be fresh. Whether it is roasted beans or ground powder, they both oxidize quickly. In particular, ground powder oxidizes faster and the aroma components are more likely to be lost. Therefore, according to the amount of coffee you and your family drink every day, it is best to buy a 10-day supply. If one cup of hand-brewed coffee requires 10 grams of coffee powder, the 10-day supply is the number of cups of coffee multiplied by 10.

Some people may say, I bought vacuum-packed coffee beans, so they can only last for 10 days? That is not realistic! Vacuum-packed coffee beans can be stored for a long time. If the shelf life is only a few weeks after you open the package, drink it up as soon as possible.

Secondly, it is best to choose medium roasted coffee beans for hand brewed coffee. The taste of coffee depends largely on the roasting. The acidity and bitterness of medium roasted coffee beans begin to balance, which is the best roasting degree and the most suitable for hand brewed coffee.

Third, medium-grinded and medium-fine-grinded coffee powder is the most suitable for hand-brewed coffee. Generally speaking, the finer the grinding, the more ingredients in the coffee can be extracted, so the taste is stronger. Conversely, the coarser the grinding, the weaker the bitterness and the richer the aroma.

Fourth, choose the right water for brewing coffee. First of all, soft water is suitable for brewing coffee, such as ordinary mineral water or purified tap water. Secondly, the water temperature. The temperature of the hot water has a great influence on the taste of the extracted coffee. Usually, hotter water tends to produce bitterness and strong acidity. The best hot water temperature for hand-brewed coffee is around 93 degrees Celsius.

To make a delicious cup of coffee, you also need a suitable water-to-powder ratio. Generally, 10g of coffee powder is needed for one cup of coffee.

Of course, the key technology of hand-brewed coffee is the brewing process: use water to fully penetrate each coffee powder, and the water flow should be thin and slow when pouring water to ensure a certain amount of water; when pouring water, start from the center of the coffee powder and add water in circles like drawing a circle. It is best to pour water in 2 or 3 times, pausing for a while in between each time.

A good day starts with a cup of hand-brewed coffee.
