Coffee bean appearance characteristics: shape, color and texture

Appearance characteristics of coffee beans

Coffee beans are one of the common foods in our daily life. They have unique shapes, colors and textures. The following will introduce the appearance characteristics of coffee beans from these three aspects.

shape

Coffee beans are usually oval or oblate in shape. They are wrapped in a pericarp inside the seed, which is covered by a thin film. This film is called the silverskin, which is an important barrier to protect the seeds from the outside environment.

In addition to the overall shape, another important feature of coffee beans is their split line. The split line is located on both sides of the coffee bean and extends along its length. When we crush a whole coffee bean, we can clearly see this split line.

color

Regarding color, different types and processing methods of coffee beans will show different degrees and shades of color. The most common and widely accepted color is brown, which is due to the chemical reaction of coffee beans during the roasting process, giving them a brown appearance.

However, not all coffee beans are brown. Some special varieties or coffee beans with different processing methods may show other colors, such as light yellow, dark red, etc. These different colors also reflect the different environments and treatments that the coffee beans have experienced during planting and processing.

Texture

The surface of coffee beans has certain texture characteristics. These textures can be divided into two categories: smooth and rough.

A smooth surface usually means that the coffee beans have been carefully processed and screened to remove the outer skin and other impurities. This process ensures that the final product is of consistent quality and tastes better.

In contrast, rough surfaces mean that coffee beans have not been fully processed or screened. They may contain peel residues, fragments, or other impurities. Although these rough surfaces do not affect the flavor of the final coffee, they may affect the quality and commercial value of the coffee beans.

Summarize

By introducing the appearance characteristics of coffee beans, we can better understand this popular food. Shape, color and texture are important factors in determining the quality and taste of coffee beans. At the same time, they also reflect the different methods used in the planting, processing and screening process.

When choosing to buy or taste coffee, we can judge its quality based on these appearance characteristics and better enjoy the pleasant experience brought by delicious coffee.
