From coffee beans to coffee: the complete production process

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world, and hundreds of millions of people enjoy it every day. But have you ever wondered what kind of production process is hidden behind this cup of fragrant coffee? Below we will take you to reveal the complete production process from coffee beans to fragrant coffee.

1. Coffee bean picking and processing

First of all, to make delicious coffee, you need to choose high-quality coffee beans. Generally speaking, it is best to pick the beans that are moderately mature, bright in color, and intact. After picking, they are processed.

There are two processing methods: dry method and wet method. The dry method is to directly dry the freshly picked fruits until the moisture content drops to about 11%; the wet method is to first remove the peel and pulp, soak them in water for 24-48 hours to allow the mucus to ferment, and remove the excess substances by washing.

2. Coffee Bean Roasting

The processed coffee beans need to be roasted, which is one of the key steps in making coffee. Roasting can change the color, aroma and taste of coffee beans.

Temperature and time control are very important during the roasting process. Generally speaking, lighter roasting will produce a coffee with a more obvious acidity and a lighter taste, while darker roasting will make the coffee taste stronger, but also bring bitterness.

3. Coffee bean cooling and storage

After roasting, the coffee beans need to be cooled to prevent excessive carbonization caused by further heating and to allow the carbon dioxide inside to be released.

Afterwards, store the cooled coffee beans in a clean, airtight, light-proof container. This will preserve their freshness and aroma and avoid exposure to moisture or direct sunlight.

4. Coffee bean grinding

Before brewing coffee, the coffee beans need to be ground. This is to increase the surface area so that water can better contact the coffee particles and release more aroma and flavor.

Depending on your brewing method and personal taste preference, you can choose a fine or coarse grind of varying degrees. For example, a medium-fine grind may be required when using a drip pot, while a coarse grind may be required when using a French press.

5. Coffee Brewing

The final step is to brew the processed, roasted, stored and ground coffee beans into a drink. There are many different methods to choose from:

  • Drip filter: Pour an appropriate amount of coffee powder onto the filter paper and slowly add an appropriate amount of warm water.
  • French press: Place an appropriate amount of coffee powder into a French press and add water at a temperature of about 95°C.
  • Espresso: Use a special Italian coffee machine to brew high-pressure steam through ground coffee powder.

No matter which brewing method you choose, you need to pay attention to factors such as water temperature, proportion and time. These factors will directly affect the taste and flavor of the final drink.

Summarize

From coffee beans to aromatic coffee, every step is crucial. Only after careful selection, processing, roasting, storage and brewing can you get a cup of delicious coffee with rich taste and fragrance. I hope this article can help you better understand the production process and appreciate the craftsmanship and fun when enjoying delicious coffee.
