Latte and cappuccino, no longer confused

Latte and cappuccino, no longer confused

On a cool afternoon, come to Starbucks, order a cup of coffee, and enjoy the tranquility quietly. However, there is a question, should I order latte or cappuccino? These two well-known coffees are really hard to tell apart! Don't worry, the jewelry class is here to educate you, so listen carefully.

1. Latte – the perfect combination of coffee and milk

Caffe Latte is the ultimate blend of Italian espresso and milk. Italians like to drink latte for breakfast.

The origin of latte can be traced back to 1683. In that year, the Turkish army attacked Vienna for the second time. Kochilski, a Viennese who had traveled in Turkey, volunteered to send a letter to Poland and brought in Polish reinforcements. The Turks were defeated, and among the supplies left behind were coffee beans that the Viennese had never seen before. So he asked for these coffee beans as a reward and opened a coffee house in Vienna - the Blue Bottle.

At first, the coffee shop business was not good because Europeans did not like to drink coffee grounds like the Turks. So he changed the recipe, filtered out the coffee grounds and added a lot of milk - this is the prototype of latte.

Latte coffee is made by adding steamed milk to the thick and rich "Espresso", and finally a thin layer of milk foam floats on the surface. With the warm seasoning of milk, the originally bitter coffee becomes smooth, sweet, and rich. There are mainly Italian latte, American latte, caramel latte, etc.

2. Cappuccino - romantic sweet coffee

Cappuccino is an Italian coffee that is made by mixing equal amounts of Italian espresso and steamed milk foam. At this point, the color of the coffee is like a turban covered on the dark brown coat of a monk of the Cappuccino Church, hence the name.

Traditional cappuccino is one-third espresso, one-third steamed milk and one-third foamed milk, and sprinkled with small particles of cinnamon powder on top. The rich aroma of coffee, the smooth taste of milk foam, the spicy feeling of cinnamon, and the slurry rolling from bottom to top are very exciting.

There are two types of cappuccino: wet and dry. The so-called dry cappuccino refers to a preparation method with more milk foam and less milk. It tastes more like coffee than milk and is suitable for people with strong taste. The opposite is true for wet cappuccino.

3. The difference between the two - the key is the amount of milk

Although both latte and cappuccino are made from espresso and milk, there are differences between the two.

(1) The ratio of espresso, milk and milk foam: According to the traditional method, for cappuccino, the ratio of espresso, milk and milk foam should be the same (1:1:1), while for latte, the ratio of milk should be larger (1:2:1).

(2) When drinking cappuccino, usually use a short and wide porcelain cup, and when drinking latte, use a taller glass cup. In addition, the milk foam of cappuccino should be higher than the rim of the cup, appearing full and smooth, and the coffee will not overflow when shaking the cup left and right; latte only has a thin layer of milk foam, which is generally flush with the rim of the cup.

(3) Cappuccino has a thick and dense texture with a stronger coffee flavor, while latte has a stronger milk flavor and a relatively lighter coffee flavor.

Now you know the difference between latte and cappuccino, don't confuse them anymore! In this cool autumn, the combination of coffee and milk is also good!
