Beanscene Music and Coffee Houses

Luna Launch

The launch today (26.05.05) of Luna Records with releases from Ella Bell, Grant Campbell, Wild Strawberry and The MaryHillbillys turns on its head the conventional record company model of manufacturing CDs for distribution through High Street retail outlets. Instead, in a pioneering move, Luna releases are available exclusively over the counter at stores of expanding coffee and music house chain, Beanscene, and from its own website at www.lunarecords.co.uk.

Gordon Richardson, Beanscene founder, said, ‘I’ve always intended Beanscene to be as much about the music as it is about coffee. We’re now realising that statement of intent. The age of buying CD’s from High Street retail outlets is on the wane. With music downloads now outstripping CD sales, music is being accessed, purchased and listened to in entirely new ways. ‘With our Beanscene outlets now attracting more than 15,000 customers a week, our research indicates that there is a demand for readily available adult orientated, album driven, edgy yet accessible music to be downloaded. It is in response to this demand that we launch Luna today.’

The launch is being marked with an event this evening for an invited audience at the Beanscene store in Woodlands, Glasgow featuring live instore performances by Ella Bell, Wild Strawberry, Grant Campbell, Caragh Nugent and a live webcast by The MaryHillbillys from Melbourne, Australia.
